Our stories, our knowledge, our perspectives, our truths need to be shared, and more people are writing books today than ever before. Independent publishing has become the path most authors take, yet doing it alone means wrestling with editing, design, ISBNs, distribution, and a hundred decisions in between.

Our Truths Publishing was created to take the guesswork and mystery out of that path. We welcome authors of every background and walk you from a finished manuscript to a finished book, giving you the polish of a professional house with the freedom of going your own way.

We do not pay advances because advances mean the publisher keeps a piece of your book forever. We take a different path: you own your work outright, you earn on every copy, and we get paid simply to do excellent work bringing it to life.

Publishing can feel like a maze of jargon and gatekeepers. Here is the plain-language version, so you can make confident decisions about your book.

Traditional Publishing

A publishing house acquires your manuscript, often pays an advance, and covers production costs. In exchange, they retain rights and a share of every sale. Acceptance rates are low and timelines can stretch for years.

Self-Publishing

You manage everything yourself: editing, design, formatting, ISBNs, distribution, and marketing. You keep full control and full rights, but you also carry the full workload and learning curve alone.

Assisted / Vanity Publishing

You pay for professional services to produce your book while keeping ownership and royalties. This is where Our Truths lives: the support and polish of a traditional house, with the freedom and rights of self-publishing.

How It Works

A clear path from your desk to the shelf.

From manuscript acceptance to a finished product averages around three months, and you will receive an estimated timeline at the start of your project.

Submit

Complete a short questionnaire and send your finished, double-spaced manuscript in Word. Within one week, we respond with acceptance and next steps, a package recommendation, or notes on what to adjust first.

Edit & Review

You pay half the fee and your editor begins. Once editing is complete, the draft comes back to you to review, approve, and add any preface or author's note.

Design & Format

Your book is formatted and typeset while your cover designer creates two cover options. We add your ISBN, barcode, and Library of Congress number as appropriate, then send a watermarked proof for final approval.

Publish

You pay the balance and the final book is produced. Hard copies are printed, the e-book is listed with Amazon as applicable, and your title joins the Our Truths catalog.

Every author has the opportunity to be published by Our Truths Publishing. In some cases, revisions or edits may be necessary before we begin the publishing process, but every author has the opportunity to have their book published.

Books vary in length according to their genre, subject, and the author's decisions. On average, books of at least 30,000 words are long enough to have a spine, which allows for a more professional finished project. That said, all lengths can be accommodated.

Publishers that pay an advance retain partial ownership of the book and are paid for every copy sold. Our Truths surrenders all ownership of the book to the author, so we do not pay an advance. You keep your rights and your royalties.

It varies for each project depending on the length of the manuscript, its readiness for publishing, the number of projects ahead of yours, and more. In general, from manuscript acceptance to finished product averages around three months, and the estimated timeline will be communicated at the start of your project.

Substantive (developmental) editing is the most intensive form. The document is evaluated as a whole, and problems of structure, organization, coherence, and logical consistency are corrected. Sentences may be added or removed, paragraphs rewritten or condensed, and blocks of text moved between sections. Copy editing corrects problems of grammar, style, repetition, word usage, and jargon, and includes one revision at no additional charge. Proofreading is the lightest form, correcting minor errors of grammar, capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and word usage (such as to/too or affect/effect).
